The extracted steam has been partially harnessed to operate a 50-megawatt geothermal power station, supplying approximately 25% of the mine’s energy requirements. The mine discharges its tailings into the sea.

Londolovit stands as the largest settlement on Lihir Island, accommodating the majority of expatriate mine employees. This locale houses essential shopping facilities and healthcare services. The local hospital offers inpatient and outpatient care, attending to the health needs of both the expatriate and local communities.
